Alison Arnoff’s Dare2Be Story

What I enjoyed most throughout my 25 years in the tech industry was being able to take what I learned and sharing it with others to solve problems, to bring about positive outcomes that helped companies succeed and grow. It was this desire to serve that led me to coaching. With my tech background and engineering education, I knew that coaching in the tech industry would be the most natural fit for me. I’d still be working in an environment I found stimulating and I’d be at home with my peeps who would more readily believe that I understood where they were coming from. I also needed interaction with the type of high performers I’d know in both tech and my years as a sports competitor. So the idea of Dare2Be started to coalesce, but it took a tragic wake-up call to get me to seek out the life I was meant to lead.

A few years ago, after the loss of my father, I needed to step away from work. I wasn’t doing a good job for the company or myself. Healing included reconnecting with my inner self for a month in the jungles of Belize and Guatemala.  When I returned, I was at a crossroads. I realized I was not living my values. I was going through the motions – being successful at a well-paying job. But there was little joy and lots of stress and no personal fulfillment. I needed to make a change. To pay the bills, I built a small consulting practice while I returned to school to finally realize my dream of becoming a coach.

In my life, I have experienced what many of my clients are going through -- the need to complete my journey on my own terms, holding true to my values, testing myself to see if I’m up to a new challenge and leaving a positive legacy. Fortunately, I had coaching help. Now my mission is to coach others through the same turning points I experienced. And though we’re all different, many of our basic needs are the same: support, encouragement, validation. We all need to be championed and challenged, to be accountable in creating the best possible version of ourselves. We need to be inspired to Dare2Be.
